Inessa Zagorov, MA

Piano and Music Theory Lessons in the San Francisco Bay Area

Meet the Instructor

Inessa Zagorov is a dedicated piano teacher and musicologist in the Bay Area who has been teaching piano and music theory for over 30 years. In her lessons, she creates a structured, supportive learning environment where students build confidence, discipline, and a lifelong love of music.

Inessa holds a Bachelor’s degree in Piano Performance and a Master’s degree in Musicology. Drawing from both European classical training and American teaching methods, she combines strong musical foundations with a personalized, creative approach that helps each student grow at their own pace. Her goal is to help students develop strong technical skills, a deep understanding of theory, and a genuine love of music.

Instruction Rooted in a Love of Learning

Inessa teaches students from age 6 through young adulthood and beyond. She believes that every student is unique and talented, and that with the right guidance and encouragement, they can achieve their fullest musical potential.

She tailors each lesson to fit the student’s learning style, interests, and goals. Whether a student is just beginning piano lessons or continuing to more advanced study, lessons are designed to be engaging, supportive, and appropriately challenging.

Lessons incorporate music theory alongside piano instruction to help students build a deeper understanding of music. Students also receive personalized practice assignments and homework to encourage steady progress between lessons.

Most of her students continue lessons for years, participating in annual recitals and completing all eleven levels of the Certificate of Merit (CM) exams. After their studies, many have gone on to study music at advanced levels, perform, or simply play piano for their own enjoyment.
